What should I wear for my photoshoot?
I get asked all the time what is best to wear for one of my photoshoots so I have put together some advice below…
Newborns Shoots
I have several of newborn outfits suitable for newborn photos here at the studio, you don’t need to bring any.
On newborns some things look great in real life but not great on photos, while other clothes which look lovely on the photos might look a bit odd in real life, however you don’t have to worry about this as I supply newborn outfits for the duration of the session.
Currently, for boys I have dusty blue, taupe, and white woolen outfits, and for girls pink and white woolen, frilly or lacy outfits. I have also have a selection of wraps and headbands.

Baby Shoots
There will usually be time for two changes of outfit during baby sessions and it is best to bring your own.
I have very little clothing for babies over newborn age. I do have the odd thing here for baby’s from 3 months to 1 year old, and I can take some in photos in just a nappy cover if you would like, but as there is time for two outfit changes you might like to bring your own baby outfits.
When choosing outfits I usually suggest wearing clothes without logos or cartoon characters and not highly patterned or brightly coloured as these tend to date. Personally, I would choose something delicate, plain and pale, like white or pastel colours. But really the choice is up to you! Just make sure you choose whatever you’d like to look back on and see in a few years time!

Adult & Children’s Shoots
For adult and children’s sessions I usually suggest wearing clothes without logos / cartoon characters / not highly patterned or brightly coloured etc. as these tend to date. If it was me I would choose something classic plain, like white, cream or pastel colours, or maybe black.
Some people also like to follow the seasons with their fabrics so wear woolens for autumn or winter shoots or cotton for spring or summer shots.
You might also like to choose something which doesn’t crease too easy to help the photos look nice.
Avoid clothes that you’ll have to keep adjusting. If it doesn’t lay properly, your bra strap keeps being shown, or the shirt is too short to stay tucked in etc you may wish to pick something else to wear.
If there are going to be several members of the family in the photos together it is usually nice to tone in colours or stick to a scheme of two or three colours across family members, you can see a nice of this example below.
I have a several delicate sheer, lace and crocheted lace dresses for girls from age 18 months to 8 years in white, nude and pink colours which can be used if you would like.

Maternity Shoots
There will usually be time for two changes of outfit during your session. You are welcome to bring your own maternity outfits or I have some simple white flowing and lacing maternity gowns at the studio you may use. Currently I have two white maternity gowns you are welcome to use – one lacey white and one plain white. The white plain dress has a split so you can choose to show your bump if you’d like for some of you photos. I’m always looking to expand my maternity dress collection so I may have more when you come.
Note: If you are going to use mine you might like to wear some white or skin coloured underwear as they are sheer.

Hope this helps! Looking forward to meeting you.
